The University Station Alliance
Advocates
In order to remain responsive to stations’ needs, while
trying to involve as many people as possible in the USA
initiative, it seemed critical that there be an interactive device–a vehicle
for sharing ideas and updates. Thus, the Advocates network was
born. One or more managers within each
state are responsible for maintaining contact with stations in each state, first serving as a point person (Advocate), receiving periodic updates and
providing any insights or observations they might have at that point. The Advocates then, shares the information they've received with colleagues in their
respective states, soliciting ideas from those stations and identifying any
critical situations that might require assistance. By using this method–a sort
of telephone tree–all stations that wish to participate in the project will
have a voice and will be kept up to date. This process may also make it
possible to head off some serious situations before they become
irreversible. Nothing like the
Advocates’ network has ever been done before in public radio. As such, you are viewing a groundbreaking
venture.
